“Seeing Red” can sometimes be a good thing - even a beautiful thing. Such is the case with January’s birthstone, the garnet.

Known as a stone of commitment, red garnet symbolizes love. Part of our “Private Collection,” this beautiful necklace was custom designed and hand made to order. I love custom designs as I get to work with my customers one-on-one to come up with a piece that reflects what you most want to wear. This glowing piece reflects passionate love and a symbol of faith, making it pleasing not only to the eye, but to the soul as well.

To honor the garnet properly, are some interesting facts:

  • Garnets are not mined. They are found in pebbles in streams and watery environments. These pebbles can be found in many places worldwide including North and South America, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, China, Madagascar, Kenya, South Africa, Russia, Europe and Australia.
  • Not all garnets are red, although red is the most common color. As they come from various parts of the world, different chemicals present in the stones formed in these unique and individual areas are the reason for their unique colors. Stay tuned for more garnets from my collection, coming soon!
  • Garnets are meant to be worn. Garnets measure 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale which gives them a fair to good wear ability. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness ranges from 1-10. The scale measures scratch resistance by using harder minerals to stratch softer ones. Just in case you were curious!
  • Garnets can easily be cleaned. Generally, warm soapy water works very well, but avoid steam cleaning as the heat can cause garnets to fracture.

Whether you’re a January baby or just love the rich, deep color of red garnets, you will love having a piece to call your own. Given its symbolism, garnet makes a lovely Valentine’s jewelry gift (or gift of love at any time!) for someone special in your life. Yes - that even means for yourself!

I wish you a happy and beautiful 2020. Here's to the good life!

With Gratitude,
